Lay It Down—Every Day

He’s not asking for a heroic death. He’s asking for your surrendered life.

Daily Devotional

What Do You Make of This?

Jesus is not asking you to die for Him in a blaze of glory.
He’s asking you to live for Him in quiet surrender.

Peter once said, “I will lay down my life for You,” and he meant it.
But Jesus wasn’t looking for a moment of heroic sacrifice—He was looking for a lifestyle of consistent laying down.

Laying down your life isn’t about dramatic moments.
It’s about daily moments:

  • Choosing humility when pride feels easier.

  • Showing up to serve when no one’s watching.

  • Saying “yes” to Jesus again, even when it costs you.

Jesus laid down His glory to walk through dirty streets and into difficult people’s lives.
He laid down His life for real—and then said, “Now you go and do the same.”

Kingdom Discipleship: A Word from Pastor Kevin

Sons and daughters,
Let’s be honest—it’s much easier to imagine dying for Jesus in a single moment than it is to live for Him day after day, in all the little things.

But this is what friendship with Jesus requires.
He’s not asking for flashes of brilliance.
He’s asking for faithfulness in the ordinary.

Some of us are holding out for the mountaintop moment—some grand calling, some epic sacrifice.
But God is watching how you walk through the valley.
How you endure the schedule, the tension, the silence, the service.
How you hold on to loyalty even when it would be easier to disconnect.

That’s the cross He’s asking you to carry.

If you’re truly His friend, you’ll remember that His honor is at stake in your daily life.
So walk like someone who’s been loved deeply.
Lay it down again today.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends… I have called you friends.”

John 15:13, 15 (NIV)

Today’s Prayer

Jesus,
You called me friend—and that changes everything.
Help me stop waiting for a grand moment and start living in simple obedience.
Let me lay down my life today, not in theory, but in real choices:
in my attitude, in my relationships, in my service.
Let my life bring honor to Your name.
Amen.
