Acquainted With Grief

You can’t avoid sorrow—but you can walk through it with the One who carried it all.

Daily Devotional

Acquaintance With Grief

We try to endure grief. We try to survive it.
But Jesus was acquainted with it.

He didn’t just experience sorrow.
He embraced it.
He walked into it with open eyes—because that’s what love required.

And if you’re going to walk with Jesus,
you will have to face grief too.
Not just grief over loss, but grief over sin.
Over brokenness. Over the cost of redemption. Over the rebellion that nailed Love to a cross.

The problem is, we try to take a rational approach to life—
Thinking that if we just do better, learn more, grow wiser, we’ll evolve into something holy.
But the truth is simpler and more offensive:
Sin is not a mistake—it’s mutiny.

And until we recognize the depth of sin, we won’t grasp the weight of grace.
We’ll keep trying to fix ourselves instead of surrendering to the One who was crucified to save us.

Kingdom Discipleship: A Word from Pastor Kevin

Sons and daughters,
There comes a moment in every believer’s life where the grief hits different.
It’s not just about what happened to you—it’s about what happened to Him because of you.

Sin is not a defect that needs tweaking.
It’s a death sentence that needed atonement.

And that’s why Jesus came.
Not to encourage your self-improvement, but to destroy the sin that was killing you.

So don’t be afraid of sorrow.
Don’t avoid the ache that comes with conviction.
Let it lead you to the Cross.

Let grief become your teacher.
Let sorrow become the sacred place where you see Jesus most clearly—
as the One who bore your griefs, carried your sorrows, and broke the power of sin forever.

He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.

Today’s Prayer

Jesus,
You are a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief.
Forgive me for trying to avoid the pain that You chose to bear.
Let me not take sin lightly.
Let me see the weight of the Cross and the power of Your grace.
Help me walk through sorrow, not alone—but with You.
Thank You for carrying what I could never carry on my own.
Amen.
